Bioinformatics Core Mission

The Bioinformatics core provides expertise and infrastructure to carry out acquisition, curation, distribution of complex data sets as well as to develop and perform computations, analyses and simulations addressing a wide variety of biological questions from genomics and systems biology. The services provided by the core is on a recharge basis to all campus researchers.

Highlights

• Source codes of some bioinformatics tools developed at the Core is released at http://trac.genomecenter.ucdavis.edu July 20, 2008
• A proteomics analysis done by the Bioinformatics is published on Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications June 15, 2008
• A 128GB Ram machine, the SUN x4600 M2 arrived today. It will enhance our ability to perform large scale sequence assemblies. June 2, 2008
• The analysis of the first Solexa sequencing run has been done at Bioinformatics core, Sept 1, 2007
• We used Plone to build easy user editable customized Web site for Pam Ronald's lab. The site is at http://indica.ucdavis.edu August 28, 2007
• A collaboration paper on Cx43 functions using Microarray and pathway analysis has been submitted. August 24, 2007
• Added example projects SNP Pipeline and Circular Microarray
• Bioinformatics Core Website is completely on MediaWiki on April 4, 2007
• Genome Center internal Portal was upgraded to XOOPS 2 on April 1, 2007

Biotechnology Forums

The purpose of the Thursday Bioinformatics Technology Forum (BTF) meeting series at the Genome Center is to provide a venue to show and tell how bioinformatics tools or related information technology actually work. To present your practical problems and ask bioinformatics help is also an appropriate thing to do. In the meeting, people are encouraged to do live demonstrations as well as brief introductions of their work or problems. All talks are informal (although introduction slides are often helpful) and active interactions are expected. If you want to talk at BTF, please contact Dawei Lin to schedule your talk. Biotechnology Forum meetings are usually held at 11:00am-12:00pm on Thursdays in room 4202, GBSF.
